Halloween Treat Ideas | Dallas Children and Family Photography

October 28, 2011

Halloween is such a fun time of year.  Except for when you think it is just a fun time of year and you take your children to the local Halloween store, full of dismembered body parts, Zombie children’s costumes, and gore of all kinds.  Then you remember that some people celebrate Halloween in a not-so-fun way.  But that’s off point.  To keep this holiday fun and devil-worshipping-free, I looked up some super fun ways to celebrate Halloween 2011 with food.  The kids will go crazy over these tasty and festive treats!

This first image?  Self explanatory.  And ohhh soooo goood.

Last year I tried to go all out.  For breakfast we had ghost-shaped pancakes with chocolate chip eyes, ghost-blood (aka milk), and these jack-o-lanterns (cut out of oranges) filled with bug guts (mixed fruit.)  I set it up so well that Mackay refused to eat any of it because it sounded too disgusting.  How can it be disgusting when it looks so cute?  Better luck this year.

These little mummy-hot dogs look way too cute and what kid doesn’t like hot dogs?  (What adult doesn’t like hot dogs?)

These little spiders look delicious, and disgusting, all at the same time.Would be great for a party, or to create with your kiddos!

And for a healthy snack during the day these little Apple Bites couldn’t be cuter.

I hope you all have a fun and safe Halloween 2011 and create some fun memories with your kids they won’t soon forget!  If you have any fun and creative ideas or traditions in your family, leave a comment and let me know–I would love to hear them!

Halloween Craft Ideas for the Kids | Dallas Children and Family Photographer

October 19, 2011

With the weather FINALLY turning Fall-ish, Chili, costumes, and crafts are on the brain.  Holidays are such a fun time to spend with your children doing things you don’t normally do.  At our house we love everything crafts!  So I had to share some of the ideas I have come across while searching for my own family.

These mini pumpkins caught my eye because they would make me the World’s Greatest Mom to my daughter Mackay.  Anything miniature sized is “sooo cute.”  Plus the fact that we are always finding acorns outside–this is a perfect craft!

This is a fun and super easy way to decorate your  home for the fun Halloween Holiday.  My kids would absolutely LOVE sitting on a chair decorated as a ghost.  So much so that they MAY just eat their vegetables…

A craft that is not only super easy to make but ALSO a cute way to decorate your home?  I’m in!

This next craft would be great for the bigger kiddos (or husbands) in need of some extra Halloween Holiday spirit.

What a fun way to decorate the OUTSIDE of your home!

And this last craft is the one I am so excited for!  Super easy and super fun.  Great Halloween craft ideas for the kids!

I hope you got some fun ideas to celebrate Halloween this year with your kids.  If you have any other ideas of what you have planned as far as craft ideas for your kids–make sure to share in the comments!

Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas | Dallas Childrens Photographer

October 7, 2011

Halloween is coming! And too soon in my opinion. I love the Halloween season, with the fall leaves, the pumpkin everything, and the cool, brisk air. But trying to figure out costumes can be SO stressful! I’m sorry, but most of the store-bought Halloween costumes out there look so terrible and the quality is appalling. If I had the time and patience, I would always make Halloween costumes for our family. And here are a few quick ideas I found on-line!

Seriously, the quality of this Cinderella dress looks impeccable.  I need to just trash the Cinderella dress I bought for Mackay last year and make this!  She also includes how-to’s for the accessories as well.

And what Cinderella would be complete without her Prince Charming?  You could totally pull this off with a little boy because he would get a sword.  :)

Again, matching siblings with Tinkerbell…

…and Peter Pan.

And if I had two boys I would DEFINITELY do these Curious George costumes.  Heck, maybe I can still convince Mackay to dress up as the Man with the Yellow Hat.  (Does it bother anyone else that no one knows the Man’s name?)

For those with a beloved family pet…

Does anyone out there have a Diva for a daughter?  I know I do!

And this little boy is absolutely the cutest.  How appropriate is it to dress your kid up homeless?

And for all those pregnant mommas out there–a proud skeletal Momma!

And I think the best part of the above costume would be the matching costume for Dad.

And I am seriously considering dressing up as Rosie the Riveter for Halloween this year.  I’m all about Girl Power.

I hope this post gives you a few ideas for Halloween costumes this year!  And PLEASE share what your plans are for Halloween–because even after all this “research” I still am not sure what our family is going to dress up as!

The Happy Jar | Coppell Children and Family Photographer

July 22, 2011

I think I’ve come across something wonderful.  I saw this great preschool idea here, but adapted it for my own purposes. I took a bunch of popsicle sticks and wrote a fun activity on each.  I did not make them cute, modge podge was not involved.  When Mackay finishes her chores for the day she gets to choose a “happy stick”.  (The name for these came to me as the words were already pouring out of my mouth.  If I had thought about it more, I would have come up with something better.)

Some things are outings, some things cost money, and some are free.  The best part was that I was able to personalize them specifically to her.Coppell TX Child and Family and Newborn PhotographerSome things I wrote down were:

  • Disney dance party
  • Help mom make a dessert
  • Make a fort
  • Play dress-up
  • Go to the dollar store
  • Paint our fingernails
  • Rent a movie
  • Pretend you’re a dog
  • Date night with Dad
  • Mom does your chores tomorrow
  • LAVA!
  • Pretend you’re the teacher
  • Make playdough
  • Etc.

So far she has absolutely loved it and it has been a wonderful way to bring variety to our day and spend quality time together.  I seriously recommend it!

Behind the Scenes | Dallas Fort Worth Custom Photographer

July 20, 2011

Remember this image from the Facebook fan page I showed you all a few weeks back?  Well, I had this great opportunity to join a Dallas/Fort Worth Photographers Meetup group.  For this specific event they provide the models and location, and you just got to have fun snapping away, experimenting with different poses and lighting, and interacting with about 30 other photographers from the area.  It was such a fun experience and I loved every minute of it!  Something completely out of the box from my regular child and family clientele.

So this image is one I was able to capture of the lovely Heather.

And David Harned from the event was able to capture this lovely moment of me.  (Thanks, David!)  Since I made Heather lie on the ground I figured I shouldn’t be afraid to, either.  And I’m really pleased to have been able to see this behind the scenes photo of myself working with my camera.  So yes, I will lie on the ground to get a great shot–even on the dirty ground of Deep Ellum.
