It was morning and Nate asked Mackay what she wanted for breakfast. One of her choices was dirt. Which, of course, she chose. Nate went outside with a bowl and a spoon, and came in a minute later. He put it down in front of her, but she refused to eat dirt. Nate took a bite, and said it was delicious. Mackay finally took a bite. And realized that her daddy had given her chocolate ice cream–for breakfast. So cool. But she made sure her dad knew that it was ice cream in her bowl, not dirt. Later that day she wanted to go to the store for ice cream. “You had some for breakfast!” I said. “No, that was dirt.” she replied.
I have a pet caterpillar and pet cocoon. I bought them in tiny little plastic cups. To watch them make their cocoons and turn into beautiful butterflies. When Nate asked me if I bought them for me or Mackay, I was not ashamed. They’re for me. Mackay can look at them too, if she wants.
Last week when it was a complete downpour here in Dallas, we had a very full week. (Great.) Driving around everywhere, getting soaked every time I stepped in or out of the car. And inevitably there was a huge puddle I always stepped in when I would get out. Driving through puddles was pretty fun, though. After going through one pretty big one, with splashes reaching up both sides of the car, Mackay exclaimed, “That was off the hoozle!” When I asked her where she learned that, she said she got it from a hamster…
Since Mackay got such a great reaction with the “hoozle” comment, she uses it way too often. And she has started saying things like, “How much hoozle does that puppy have?” Or, “That was off the tree!” Not funny. So we have been trying to teach her appropriate comedic timing. We’ll see how it goes.
We were invited over to a new friend’s house for dessert one night. And Nate had something in his front teeth. It was pink though (probably salmon from dinner), so I didn’t think it fell into the same category of black or green, which is obviously a mandatory notification. He was not happy when I told him about it once we got home.
I bought Mackay some water balloons for being such a good little girl one day. (And then realized that I am completely incapable of filling them up.) When Nate got home he filled some up with water, and we took them outside. Mackay was SO excited. Until Nate threw one at the ground and it popped. She started crying uncontrollably. It was devastating. We then had about 5 little “babies” she took care of in the house. Welcome to my daughter.
And last but not least: Zack update. For all those who have shown concern, he is doing a lot better. His doctor’s appointment last week showed that he was only 17.8 lbs, which was barely bordering the very bottom line on the growth charts (if the dot was big enough), and that is adjusted for his prematurity. For the past few weeks he hasn’t wanted to eat and has had total diarrhea. (Fun, I know.) He even stopped having wet diapers almost completely. We have since discovered that he may be lactose intolerant. And he is doing a lot better on a soy milk diet. Though he still isn’t too interested in eating a solid meal yet, and he still has some pretty bad diapers. We’ll know more in a week once we know that any traces of dairy are out of his system. Blood tests may have to ensue, though our fingers are crossed for our little dude!
Okay, and a Mackay quote. A few days ago my throat started really hurting. I woke up in the morning and said my throat was killing me. Mackay then said, “Kill your throat, then.” Hmm…that’s possibly a good idea…
